Ethel Lissmann

I was born, raised and live in Montevideo, Uruguay.

My first steps in artistic creation were in stationary design. For twenty-five years, I worked with papers and cardboard that transmitted my creativity in invitations to events.

At some point I felt the need to give new meaning to the materials I used. I then began to mix them together with family objects and transformed memories into creations of strong emotional involvement.

My incorporation into the Jose Maria Pelayo Art Workshop (Montevideo) gave me invaluable technical growth and artistic direction. The Art History workshops with Emma Sanguinetti were a creative stimulus and great inspiration. More recently I turned to the coaching of curator Jaqueline Lacasa to organize my artistic time and take it to a more advanced level.

My interest is in transforming an idea or a memory into an artistic creation from simple and everyday materials, which together are transformed into a deeply emotional representation.
